No my earrings do not blog but the title did catch your attention. Read along!
Few days ago I was invited as a guest speaker at a forum discussion event organised by Maharashtra Times, one of the leading Marathi news papers. The topic of the was blogging. The audience was college students.
It was a good discussion, good event. I have been writing my Marathi blog since 2007. I am not at all regular in writing that blog but for some reason many people follow my Marathi blog. We, the speakers, talked about our own way of blogging, topics we handle, scope of blogging in general, trends in blogging and so on. I learnt a lot.
But this blog-post is not about blogging.
Ever since I have entered the ‘overweight’ zone officially, I have been wearing absolutely boring clothes. Few months ago, I had an epiphany about that. I decided to accept my body weight as it is. I decided that I will not wait to dress nicer until I lose weight. In that phase, I made few clothes for myself. Being a costume designer and having worked in costume shops, I have enough experience in pattern manipulations and stitching clothes.
But this blog-post is not about embracing your weight
I had a cotton hand-loom fabric with beige base with yellow ocher and grey leaves printed on it. I decided to pair it with grey cotton fabric. I made a long kurta out of beige cotton fabric and a paneled skirt out of the plain grey fabric. I wore this kurta and skirt set for the above mentioned blogging event.
But this blog-post….
I wanted to make a pair of earrings to go with this dress. I knew that I wanted both silver and gold tones in the earrings. I could not get time to make it until the night before the event.
I used 18 gauge German silver for the base. The base shape was hammer flattened. I used 20 gauge brass wire to dress the base. Leaves and ivy motif works perfect when it comes to dressing the base wire with another wire. The earrings were pretty long hanging earrings just how I love it.
I wore those to the event the next day. The anchor for the event also mentioned those earrings and my art jewelry brand Nee.
Since the earrings are handmade totally, there is a slight difference in the shapes and size of the two earrings in a pair. And I feel that it adds to the beauty of the piece.
What say people?
